The 2013 Special Talk "Does Death End It All"... Spanish version eliminates the word "Nanotechnology"
by Calebs Airplane inremember this incredibly stupid sentence in the 2013 special talk (posted on this board in recent months)?:.
"despite nanotechnology, humans can neither create life nor restore it.".
well apparently, the english-to-spanish translator (who wrote the spanish version of the 2013 special talk outline) apparently realized that the use of the word "nanotechnology" in this outline was completely irrelevant and childish... so he simply substituted the word "nanotechnology" with the phrase "great scientific advancements".

Wolf... yes... I'm fluent in English & Spanish... (also working on Portuguese and Italian but still have a long way to go...)
Lately, I've been noticing wide contrasts in translated publications (in both grammar and semantics), particularly in English-to-Spanish translations... so I thought I'd highlight the fact that this so-called "Kingdom Unity" or "unity of thought" really does not exist to the extent that the WT would like people to believe.

Remember this incredibly stupid sentence in the 2013 Special Talk (posted on this board in recent months)?:
"Despite nanotechnology, humans can neither create life nor restore it."
Here's the Spanish version (as it appears on the actual Spanish outline)...
"A pesar de los grandes avances cientificos, el ser humano no puede crear vida ni devolverla a quienes han fallecido."
Incredibly, the Spanish-to-English translation of this sentence (which the WT writer could have easily used) is the following:
Despite great scientific advancements, humans cannot create life nor return it to those who have passed away.
Sometimes I think the WT writers are so bored that they find entertainment in sneaking in irrelevant or ridiculous phrases...
This reminds me of the Steve and Selma thread... remember that? Steve hit Selma in the English Watchtower but in the Spanish version he only got "furious" with Selma.
I guess the Spanish translators don't always see eye-to-eye with the English writers who write the original versions of most talk outlines, WT articles, books, etc..
So much for "kingdom unity"...

The uneducated writer who wrote this outline was apparently looking for a trendy word to insert into this incredibly boring outline... so he probably flipped through the pages of a Reader's Digest he picked up in the subway on his way back to bethel and noticed the word "nanotechnology".
But what irritates me the most in this outline is this intelligence-insulting doomsday claim in the last section:
"Now that sufficient time has elapsed for all to to see the results of disobedience to his laws, the appointed hour is fast approaching for God to correct matters on Earth."
Are you f**king kidding me? Yet another Armageddon prediction (albeit slightly vague in nature) to get the weak dubs off their asses and into Field Circus again. Will the dubs ever realize that this is really just a well-organized money-laundering scam?

JW's and cigars (research thread)
by wallsofjericho ini feel like i have never had a satisfactory answer on this.. my experience has been that there has never been a solid stance by the wts on cigars.. i do not have the cd-rom installed right now but for a long time i could not find a definitve statement against cigar smoking.
i did find an article from a few years back that commented it gave you stained teeth and bad breath, but i can hardly see how these are df'ing offenses.
this would rule coffee for sure and a whole host of foods that do this also.. does anyone have the cd-rom installed and are able to dig up some info?

Still Waiting For the Governing Body To Explain Their New Light
by Cameron_Don inregarding the governing bodys new light relative to matthew 24:45-47, anointedjw.org recently said the following:.
this new light certainly poses a problem for the governing body.
perhaps this is another reason why they have not yet published a sober and scriptural xplanation of this new light.

They're probably waiting for feedback from the illustartion on page 29 of the April 15, 2013 Watchtower.
Also, I'm sure they're waiting for feedback from this board. This thread is actually helping them tweak the articles that will probably appear in the May 15 Kool Aid edition.

What is the most out of line / disturbing experience you have seen from Circuit Overseers?
by Poindexter Lionel Humperdique ini once heard of a circuit overseer blaming a loyal ministerial servant, that served as the accounts servant, of steeling from the contribution boxes, simply because he deposited the congregation funds bi-weekly instead of twice a week.
due to the accusation, the ms was immediately removed without hearing his side of the story.
isn't this rather counter-intuitive and innefficient?

Going back about 14 years, a passerby on the street stopped and then sat (or rather leaned) on the CO's car (probably to get out of the way of pedestrians for a moment while he made a call). The CO was standing across the street about 4 houses down talking to an MS.
When he saw this, the CO stopped his conversation with the MS abruptly and then quickly walked over to his car to reprimand the passerby for leaning on his car. I couldn't believe what I was seeing. He actually got in that poor man's face for leaning on his precious car (a '98 Chevy Lumina I believe).
I asked the brother that I was paired up with if he knew what that was all about. He said: "Brother CO is very meticulous with his things. He gets up early every morning to wash or wipe his car and doesn't like anyone putting their hands on it or leaving hand prints on the windows." (WTF???)
I had already heard that previously but thought it was an exagerrated rumor...
Incredibly, the passerby didn't respond. He simply got off the CO's car and went on his merry way. He probably thought: "There's no sense getting into an argument with a wacko in an oversized polyester suit."
The CO walked back to the MS with a little swagger in his step as if to say: "Yeah, that's right. I'm the new CO in town."
